We would like to inform you of an important upcoming event that will have a significant impact on freight transport between the ports of Northern Europe, in particular Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg, and Switzerland. Due to the expansion and modernization of the Rhine Valley Railway between Karlsruhe and Basel, a crucial part of the route between Rastatt and Baden-Baden will be closed for three weeks, from August 9 to August 30, 2024. The closure is necessary to connect the southern end of the Rastatt tunnel to the rail network, a project costing a billion dollars. The work has been timed to coincide with vacations in Baden-Württemberg, to minimize ongoing disruption.
During the closure period, freight trains will be rerouted via Stuttgart and Singen. This detour will significantly extend journey times, leading to unavoidable delays in freight traffic. Because of the detours, additional rail infrastructure charges will apply. We understand that this may result in additional costs for our customers, and we are making every effort to minimize these impacts.
We will keep you informed of any developments regarding this work and its impact. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We are aware that this situation may cause inconvenience and we thank you for your cooperation.
