According to the 2018 CNUDED (Conference on Trade and Development) report, growth in shipping traffic is not expected until 2023.

Trade increased strongly in 2017 to 4%, based on the recovery of the global economy. Statistically speaking, this is the highest in the last five years. Global transshipment volumes reached $ 10.7 billion and global container traffic increased by 6.4%. After two rather weak years, the CNUDED estimated the global transshipment in 2017 to 752.2 M. of EVT, which equates to + 5.6% or +42.3 M. of EVS.

The forecasts of the CNUDED publication are much more important and predict a volume increase of 4% in 2018, but also an annual growth rate of 3.8% until 2023. The format of growth is envisaged for containers and dry bulk.
